The new EU regulation (EU) 2024/1157 mandates the use of the DIWASS (Digital Waste Shipment System) for cross-border waste transport starting May 21, 2026. This system will facilitate the electronic transmission of information and documents required for legal waste transport procedures. However, the obligation to use DIWASS for certain procedures has been postponed until December 31, 2026.
- The regulation replaces (EC) No 1013/2006.
- DIWASS will be mandatory for all entities in the EU involved in waste transport.
- Documents must be submitted electronically via DIWASS, including notifications and agreements.
- Paper documents will still be accepted until the end of 2026 for specific procedures.
- GIOŚ will not consider certain violations illegal if paper documents are provided during transport.
