New Rules for Transit Operations at the Austria-Switzerland Border from January 1, 2026

The Austrian customs administration has announced new electronic notification requirements for transit operations at the Austria-Switzerland border, effective January 1, 2026. Electronic notifications must be submitted via the "Smart Border Austria" application before the arrival of shipments at the transit office, or transport will not be allowed to cross the border.
- The new requirement is based on Article 184 lit. e) of the delegated regulation to the EU Customs Code.
- Notifications must be submitted to the Austrian transit office for T1/T2 transit operations.
- Failure to comply will result in denial of border crossing permission.
